Two Week Stop-Gap H.J. Res. 143

The House Appropriations Committee today released a two-week stopgap bill that punts the next government funding deadline to Dec. 21.

White House and congressional leaders have agreed to the stopgap that would extend until the Friday before Christmas.

The short-term bill, H.J. Res. 143, would stave off a partial funding lapse on Dec. 7, giving leadership more time to negotiate a deal on President Donald Trump’s border wall funding.

The bill would also extend funding for the National Flood Insurance Program, according to a GOP committee aide.

Leaders from both parties — as well as Trump — agreed to push back the deadline after the death of former President George H.W. Bush. The House canceled its votes for the week as the former president will lie in state in the Capitol through Wednesday morning.

The House plans to pass the stopgap funding bill by voice vote sometime this week, and the Senate will take up the measure and send it to Trump’s desk by Friday.
